 Sergeant Dean
McCann is a retired Sergeant of the Odessa Police Department. Dean had
worked in the Patrol Services Bureau as an officer, a Field Training
Officer and a First Line Supervisor. In his almost 11 years in the
Criminal Investigation Bureau, Dean has been assigned to the Gang
Unit, the Crimes Against Property Section, Crimes Against Persons
Section and the Metro Homicide Unit. Dean was a 15 year veteran of the
Odessa Police Department SWAT Team, serving as an Operator, Team
Leader and Operations Sergeant. During his tenure in the military and on SWAT, he had
participated in over 600 High Risk Warrant services, Hostage
Situations and Barricaded Subjects, while in a leadership capacity.
Dean came to the Odessa Police Department after serving as a Team
Leader with the 3rd Battalion, United States Army Rangers, stationed
in Fort Benning, Georgia. Dean is a black belt in Hapkido, a former
fight instructor, a former World Karate Association Full-Contact
Kickboxer and a former member of the West Texas Karate Points Fighting
Team based in El Paso, Texas.
Dean has been teaching for over 17 years, in classes ranging from
Child Abuse to Interview and Interrogation to Intermediate Arrest,
Search and Seizure. Dean’s Rapid Response to the Active Shooter
training became mandatory training at the Odessa Police Department in
2002, and he has conducted this training, among other classes, all
over Texas. Dean has previously been an Associate Instructor with
MP
Productions, Inc. of Raleigh, North Carolina as an Assistant Instructor of
Leadership, Ethics and Mentoring Training for law enforcement and
Corporate America.
Dean is a Certified D.P.S Defensive Tactics Instructor, a
T.C.L.E.O.S.E. Instructor, a former Advanced M26 Taser Instructor, a
Certified Tactical Team Close Quarter Combat Instructor, a Critical
Incident Instructor for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in
Glynco, Georgia, an Active Shooter Instructor certified by the National
Tactical Officer’s Association in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Most
recently, Dean completed the FBI’s National Firearms Instructor
Certification Course.
Dean has consulted with film
makers, worked as a Stunt Coordinator and Fight Choreographer for DSK
Films of Los Angeles, CA., and
had a cameo appearance in their film "Waking Dreams.
In the political
thriller "Conflict of
Interest", Dean was cast as an FBI Agent, a masked assassin
and a Special Ops Commander, and served as Weapons
Master, Tactical Technical Adviser and Trainer, Stuntman and
Stunt Coordinator.
In "The
Ascent", Dean served as Weapons Master, Rappelling and Tactical
Technical Adviser/Trainer, Safety Coordinator and also the webmaster.
